SplitChatter – Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy applies specifically to the SplitChatter iOS application (“SplitChatter”, “the App”), provided by Signal Anvil (“we”, “us”, “our”). It does not apply to other Signal Anvil products, services, or websites unless expressly stated.

1. Overview

SplitChatter is a dictation app that lets you convert speech to text. It offers two modes:

Standard Dictation (Default / Free)
AI-Assisted Dictation (Paid Feature)

We designed SplitChatter so that the default mode keeps your data on your device. Only when you choose to use the optional paid AI-Assisted Dictation feature is your audio sent to our servers for processing.

2. Dictation Modes and Data Flow

2.1 Standard Dictation (On-Device, Default Mode)

Speech recognition is performed by Apple’s on-device speech system.
Your audio is processed locally on your device.
We do not receive your audio, transcripts, or other content when you use this mode only.

2.2 AI-Assisted Dictation (Optional Paid Feature)

If you subscribe to or enable the AI-Assisted Dictation feature, audio for that specific feature is:

Sent from your device to our backend (e.g. via AWS Lambda or similar infrastructure).
Forwarded to a secure third-party speech-to-text provider solely to generate a transcription.
Returned to you as text within the App.

This cloud processing only occurs when you use AI-Assisted Dictation. Standard Dictation remains on-device and does not send audio to us.

3. Information We Collect

3.1 When You Use Standard Dictation

When you use only the Standard Dictation mode:

We do not receive or store your audio.
We do not receive or store your dictation text.
We do not collect any personally identifiable information via the App.

3.2 When You Use AI-Assisted Dictation

When you enable and use the AI-Assisted Dictation paid feature, we may collect:

Audio clips that you submit to the AI-Assisted Dictation feature in order to generate a transcription.
Transcription text generated from your audio (at least temporarily, to deliver results and manage usage).
A pseudonymous app-specific identifier (for example, a random ID stored on your device or an identifier derived from your App Store purchase) used solely to:
- Track your AI-Assisted Dictation usage, and
- Apply subscriptions or pay-as-you-go credits.
Usage data related to AI-Assisted Dictation, such as:
- Number of AI-Assisted Dictation requests.
- Total audio duration processed.
- Subscription tier or credit balance (if applicable).

We do not collect your name, email address, Apple ID login credentials, or other direct personal identifiers from the App.

4. How We Use the Information

We use the information described above only for the following purposes:

To provide the service – including converting your speech to text and delivering the resulting transcription to you.
To manage subscriptions and pay-as-you-go usage – for example, to track how many requests or minutes of AI-Assisted Dictation you have used and apply credits or subscription limits accordingly.
To maintain security and prevent abuse – such as detecting excessive or fraudulent usage of AI-Assisted Dictation.

We do not use your audio or transcription data for marketing or advertising and we do not sell your data.

5. Third-Party Processing

For AI-Assisted Dictation, we rely on a third-party speech-to-text provider to transform your audio into text. In that context:

Audio and related information are transmitted securely to that provider only to generate transcriptions.
The provider is not permitted to use your audio or transcripts to contact you or for unrelated marketing.
We do not sell or share your data with unrelated third parties.

6. Data Retention

Audio clips (AI-Assisted Dictation) are kept only as long as necessary to process your request and deliver a transcription, and then are deleted or anonymized where technically feasible.
Transcription text and usage records related to AI-Assisted Dictation may be retained as long as needed to:
- Provide the service,
- Maintain subscription or usage records,
- Comply with legal, accounting, or fraud-prevention obligations.

We strive to minimize the amount of data we store and the duration for which we store it.

7. Analytics and Aggregate Data

We may receive aggregated, anonymous analytics data from Apple via App Store Connect (such as total installs, active devices, crash reports, and basic engagement statistics). This information does not identify individual users and is used to understand the overall performance and stability of SplitChatter.

8. Your Choices and Controls

You are free to use only Standard Dictation, in which case your audio remains on-device and is not sent to our servers.
You may choose to subscribe to or enable AI-Assisted Dictation. When you do so, your audio for that feature will be processed via our backend and third-party provider as described.
You may contact us (see Section 11) to request deletion of stored transcripts or usage records associated with your pseudonymous identifier, to the extent we are able to locate and delete them.

9. Children’s Privacy

SplitChatter is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with data, please contact us so we can delete it.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in SplitChatter’s features or our data practices. When we make material changes, we will update the “Effective date” at the top of this page and may provide additional notice within the App or on our website.
